It’s the mind that generates inspiration – when the conditions are right. Looking at how we experience inspiration, there seem to be three levels. This brings me to a story of my own.

Can you make a new recording of one of your favorite songs, with yourself on lead vocal? Can you create an inspiring painting? Can you get cast in a play, or even make a movie?

There are simple ways to increase your motivation. For starters make sure you are getting enough sleep. It is difficult to be motivated to run a mile if you are still exhausted from work yesterday.

It is a waste of time to set goals for yourself if there is no motivation simply because you are not capable of getting anything done. So, you need to learn how to deliver motivation. This can be done if you start within yourself. Here are some ways to help you learn how to deliver motivation and be motivated yourself.

So why do you want inspiration? You would be surprised that many writers do not actually know the answer to this question. Feeling inspired is a great, but without a goal in mind, that feeling can be wasted. What is your intention for inspiration? Do you want to start a novel? Are you trying to figure out how to end a poem? Do you need motivation to re-edit your manuscript? Seeking inspiration without an intention may be a fruitless task. You need to have some objective in mind, otherwise inspiration is wasted.

You’d also want to stop worrying, whatever it takes. Worry is negative goal-setting. A worried person envisions a negative future, and then, sure enough, starts moving toward that future like a moth drawn to a flame. When an inspired leader sets goals, she uses her imagination to picture a wonderful future, and then sets in motion the right actions to move toward happier outcomes. You can stop obsessing about the things that worry you. The prescription is action. Start taking action today to move yourself toward a positive future.

Once you get to that point you’ll be able to hold onto so much motivation that it’ll be sloshing over the top as you race forward – and you’ll have become a motivational resource for those around you as well. Just think of all you’ll accomplish when you no longer run out of motivation!
